Condition of the book: very good. Most importantly, all 16 plates are present. Very often plates are missing, but this copy lacks none. Original red cloth, gilt titles and art nouveau decoration to spine after a design by Alfred Garth Jones, enlarged on front cover incorporating silhouette of hound stamped in black. Embossed bookseller’s ticket to front free endpaper, slight lean to spine, light wear to extremities, top edge a little soiled with one mark to lower edge, covers otherwise bright and clean, front hinge tender, some offsetting and light foxing to endpapers, contents unmarked. A landmark book and fan favourite of all Sherlock Holmes stories.
