Herbert, Frank (1976) ‘Children of Dune’, UK signed first edition

Frank Herbert (1976) ‘Children of Dune‘, UK first edition, first printing, published by Victor Gollancz. Signed on the title page by Frank Herbert without personalisation. Condition: a very good book in two near fine dust jackets. The book is tight and square with slight foxing to the top page block, and a few foxing spots on the front page block. The bottom page block is clean. Spine tips a bit pushed as common when handled on the shelf. The gilt on the spine is vibrant and NOT rubbed out. The first dust jacket is the first state or trial dust jacket which had plain yellow panels with the title, author and ‘The Final Novel in the Great Dune Trilogy’ printed on the front. It is priced at GBP 3.50 appx (approximately). The second dust jacket is the dust jacket which hit the general stores with artwork of a Dune landscape with a hidden face in the sand dunes of the front panel. It is priced at GBP 3.95 net. Both dust jackets in nice condition with only trivial creases. Notice that the second dust jacket is NOT faded on the spine. It has a tendency to turn purple but this specimen has retained its orginal colour. The Dune trilogy in science fiction has been compared to Tolkien’s ‘Lord of the Rings’ in fantasy in its scope and world building. The British first edition of ‘Children of Dune’ is much scarcer than the US first edition, and seems to be even harder to find than the first UK edition of ‘Dune’. Needless to say, signed copies are even harder to track down, especially with the trial dust jacket.
