David Herbert Lawrence (1928) ‘Lady Chatterley’s Lover‘, first edition and limited edition, published and printed privately in Florence. Once of 1,000 copies of which this is no. 757. Signed by the author. Original pinkish-brown paper-covered boards, printed spine label, Lawrence’s phoenix device blocked in black on front cover, fore and bottom edges untrimmed. Not to be confused with the pirated edition limited to 500 copies which was not signed by Lawrence but is often advertised as such. Condition: minor superficial chipping to spine ends and front joint, slight loss to upper tip of front board, contents clean and free from ownership marks. A very good copy, largely unopened. A landmark novel in erotica with literary merit, ahead of its time in incorporating Freudian psychology. Very influential on writers such as Henry Miller and Anais Nin. Adapted several times into film. A cornerstone in any serious 20th century literature collection.
